Story Coaching and Storywork
At The Broken and Beautiful, Storywork is a way of understanding how past experiences continue to shape present reactions—often through the nervous system rather than conscious thought. Our work is based on The Allender Theory and Narrative Focused Trauma Care at The Allender Center as well as relying heavily on neuroscience information from Dr. Dan Siegel, Deb Dana and others.
We believe in wholehearted recovery, so we work with our whole selves. In sessions, we don’t begin with insight. We begin with orientation.
We work with this sequence. While this is not math, it is science and art, and it requires engagement on the part of your coach and you.
Nervous system → Story → Attachment → Repair
-
We notice body states before interpreting meaning
-
We approach stories with curiosity rather than urgency
-
We understand attachment strategies as protective, not pathological
-
We treat repair as a present-moment practice, not a perfected outcome

Embrace Your Story
We all have defining experiences that shape how we view ourselves, others, and God. Storywork helps you examine these moments with honesty and courage in the presence of safe others.
Release Old Patterns
By confronting past wounds, we break free from survival mechanisms that no longer serve us. This process empowers you to choose which parts of your story to keep, unlocking new beginnings.
Guided Perspective
With the help of skilled Story Coaches, you’ll navigate your life’s most influential stories, gaining insights that create space for freedom, hope, and deeper, more fulfilling relationships.
